Transportation is the largest segment of the services sector

The Economy in focus bulletin published by the CNT (National Confederation of transport) on Tuesday (12) points out that the activities of shipping, auxiliary services and postal transport led to net operating revenues of the services sector in the year 2015, responding for 29.3% of the total. The publication analyzes the results of PAS de 2015 (annual survey) of the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics), released this year. "Transport services have a strategic role in the brazilian economy, with businesses operating in the national territory and integrated with production and distribution chains of goods, particularly in agricultural production, industrial and mineral for the foreign market and on movement of merchandises for intermediate and final consumption of households and companies internally ", highlights the CNT on the Economy in focus. The number of companies active in the segment was $187,600 (14.5% of all surveyed companies by PAS), with 63.4% of road freight sector, 13.9% in the storage industry and ancillary activities, 17.7% in passenger bus. The other modes (air, rail, waterways and railway), together, represent less than 1% of the total.
